AIFM directive could prompt firms' exit, a survey finds

Nearly half of alternative-asset managers and investors surveyed said the Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers could prompt some fund managers to leave Europe. However, nearly a third of respondents said the controversial AIFM is necessary. "[Our] survey suggests that there is a certain level of support for the AIFM directive," said Tim Friedman, head of communications at Preqin, which conducted the study. "There is a feeling among practitioners in countries such as Italy and Croatia that conditions will actually be less restrictive as a result of the directive's introduction.
