Concern about China's economy drags on Asian-Pacific markets

Asian-Pacific share markets slid Wednesday as traders reacted to data showing that China is facing strong inflationary pressure and an underlying economic slowdown. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.3%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dropped 0.7% and China's Shanghai Composite eased 0.2%. South Korea's Kospi Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index lost 0.6%. Taiwan's Taiex and New Zealand's NZX 50 were unchanged. In afternoon trading, Singapore's Straits Times Index declined 0.5%, Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Composite rose 0.2%, Thailand's SET gave up 0.4%, and India's Sensex and Indonesian shares slipped 0.3%.
