Ireland is set to adopt severe spending cuts and tax hikes

Ireland is expected to adopt the severest budget of austerity in its prolonged financial crisis after obtaining crucial, last-minute support from independent lawmaker Michael Lowry. The budget includes a long list of tax increases and additional cuts in welfare spending, on top of reductions made earlier.
