Stocks advance across Asia-Pacific in volatile trading

Asian-Pacific markets gained Wednesday, though traders in China worried about further tightening by the government. China's Shanghai Composite and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 inched up 0.1%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 1.1%. Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.5%, South Korea's Kospi Composite rose 1.3% and Taiwan's Taiex climbed 1.8%. New Zealand's NZX 50 closed unchanged, while India's Sensex advanced 1.5% and Singapore's Straits Times Index went up 1.1% in afternoon trading.
