Most Asian markets gain, but shares slide in China and Japan

Most stock markets in Asia-Pacific advanced Friday, but those in China and Japan bucked the trend. Japan's Nikkei 225 slid 0.4%, and China's Shanghai Composite lost 1%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.5%, South Korea's Kospi Composite gained 0.4% and Taiwan's Taiex climbed 0.3%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index and Philippine shares rose 1%, while New Zealand's NZX 50 was unchanged. In afternoon trading, Singapore's Straits Times Index tacked on 0.8%, Indonesian shares edged up 0.3%, India's Sensex went up 1.1% and Thailand's SET was flat. Full story here
